EMAS certification for Schlossbrauerei Autenried

The Schlossbrauerei has once again been audited and certified by the European environmental management system EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). Rudolf Feuchtmayr (Managing Director of Schlossbrauerei Autenried GmbH) was delighted and proud to receive the certificate, which awards Schlossbrauerei Autenried the EMAS logo for the next two years.

MAS is the world's most demanding environmental management system, which companies and organizations use to show outsiders that they are taking responsibility for their own actions and the environment. Every two years, an independent environmental auditor carries out an interim audit to review the company's environmental goals. The entire operation, but in particular the measures implemented, is inspected and evaluated. In addition, the tasks that still need to be completed in the next two years are recorded. This ensures that constant ecological and sustainable progress is planned and implemented.

The Schlossbrauerei Autenried successfully implemented numerous measures to avoid waste, increase efficiency and save water, electricity and heating energy. For example, despite increased production and guest numbers, the volume of waste was kept almost constant thanks to conscious waste management.

In addition, the existing PV system was expanded by rebuilding the roof of a warehouse. This investment increased the installed capacity to 590 kWp. The large-scale photovoltaic system therefore plays its part in protecting the environment. The resulting energy is used for brewing and bottling operations during the week and for cooling the beer tanks, barrels and bottles and stored as ice water (1°C) at weekends. By the end of 2024, another feed-in system will be included in the company's own use. Another goal for the coming year is to reduce water consumption in the dealcoholization plant. Due to the increasing demand for non-alcoholic beers, Schlossbrauerei Autenried has decided to purchase a membrane/osmosis system. With the help of this system, beers such as Helles or wheat beer can be offered as non-alcoholic variants. The focus here was on gentle production without thermal stress and the preservation of flavors and aromas that reflect the typical character of Autenrieder beers.

Measures relating to environmental protection were also implemented in the brewery inn. This included the replacement of CHP units in the hotel area. This purchase enables more efficient generation of electricity and heat. In addition, door signs were introduced for overnight guests. If they choose, overnight guests can forgo new towels and instead enjoy a cool drink on the house.

Thanks to the measures mentioned above and many others, the Schlossbrauerei has been able to hold EMAS certification since 1998. "For us in Autenried, sustainable business is not a trend, but a lived action," explains Rudolf Feuchtmayr. "Giving something back to the environment" - under this motto, the employees of the Schlossbrauerei Autenried work together on ideas and improvements and develop process changes that enable them to continue to make a positive contribution to overall success.
