BierKulturHotel Schwanen wins Wellness & Spa Innovation Award

Honor for an extraordinary spa concept: The Best Western Plus BierKulturHotel Schwanen in Ehingen was awarded the Wellness & Spa Innovation Award 2024 by the German Wellness Association. With the hotel's own BierSPA, the Miller family of hoteliers won in the Spa Design category.

Ehingen, November 15, 2024.

The Best Western Plus Brauhaus and BierKulturHotel Schwanen in Ehingen was honored by the German Wellness Association for its unique spa concept with the Wellness & Spa Innovation Award. The hotel's beer SPA received the award in the Spa Design category. The wellness area of the family-run traditional hotel in the beer culture city on the Danube, like the entire hotel, is dedicated to the theme of beer. The extraordinary beer wellness area in the 50-room hotel offers, among other things, a beer barrel steam bath, a Finnish sauna made from old brewery wood, where you can enjoy infusions with beer or hops, and a relaxation room in the beer cellar with gemstone water for refreshment. Beer baths with the ingredients of the beer and the hotel's own brewed beer are also offered.

The craft tradition of brewing beer is an integral part of the hotel's and the owner family's hosting philosophy. With the wellness area, which opened at the end of 2023, the beer and brewing culture in the BierKulturStadt will be made even more accessible. "We spent twelve months refining the concept of the beer wellness area and are really proud of the end result. The spa area also borders the historic city wall, which can be seen from the relaxation room. With the Wellness & Spa Innovation Award, we are delighted to be recognized for our heart project in the house," explains Michael Miller, who, together with his brother Dominic, is the owner and managing director of the Best Western Plus BierKulturHotel Schwanen in Ehingen. In addition to the BierKulturHotel, there has been an in-house brewery and distillery on site since 1697, as well as the Schwanen inn, which have been run as a family business by the Miller family in the fifth generation since the mid-19th century. The ancient craft tradition of brewing beer is an integral part of the host philosophy and is reflected in all hotel areas and offerings.

Every year, the German Wellness Association presents the Wellness & Spa Innovation Award to companies and organizations with unique concepts. The award is given in three categories: spa design, wellness product and spa technology. Organizations from all over Europe and of any size whose products, methods and applications are aimed at the international wellness market can apply for the Wellness & Spa Innovation Award. The award is based on four criteria: relevance of the innovation, traceability of function and benefit, proof of effectiveness and benefit for health and health-related well-being. The jury justified the award as follows: "In the BierKulturHotel Schwanen, the design of the spa area consistently follows the main theme of "beer" and is implemented down to the smallest detail in an authentic beer cellar experience. The beer barrel steam bath, which is one of the spa attractions, is unique in the world."

Best Western Plus BierKulturHotel Schwanen in Ehingen

The Best Western Plus BierKulturHotel Schwanen with its own brewery and distillery in Ehingen on the Danube offers its guests 50 air-conditioned rooms, some with a balcony or terrace. The gastronomic offer is complemented by a restaurant and the "BrennBar". The owner of the Best Western Plus Bierkulturhotel Schwanen is the Miller family from Ehingen, who run the Gasthof Schwanen with its associated brewery and distillery. The managing directors and owners Dominic and Michael Miller say unanimously: "We are proud to be able to add another chapter to the more than 310-year-old and traditional history of the Gasthof Schwanen with the beer wellness area. We are also delighted that with the new offer we can now bring the local beer and brewing culture even closer to our guests."

Literally sleeping in beer: beer crate room

The theme of beer runs like a thread through the entire hotel's furnishings. For example, to breathe life into the term "beer culture", special beer crate rooms were created using wood from the brewery's former grain and malt storage. A furniture sculpture made for the hotel consists of a bed, wardrobe and seating area. "In this way, figuratively speaking, we want our guests to sleep in beer," says Michael Miller.

Traditional Brewing Craft

The variety of beers also sets the tone in the hotel's gastronomic area. The Schwanen brewery and inn has been in existence since 1697 and has been successfully run as a family business in the fifth generation since the middle of the 19th century. Guests can choose from a whole range of their own beers: in addition to the classics such as Export, Pils or Zwickel, there is a different seasonal specialty every month. Up to 19 different beers are served on the bar throughout the year. The restaurant serves specialties from Swabian cuisine to go with the beer. On summer evenings, the beer garden in the hotel courtyard, which is surrounded by hop plants, is a tempting place. Guests who would like to learn about the artisanal tradition of brewing can take a look behind the scenes on a tour of the inn's brewery. Participants can delve even deeper into the art of brewing as part of in-house brewing seminars.
