Great success for the Aying Franz Inselkammer KG brewery at the European Beer Star 2025
Beer connoisseurs and friends of the Aying Brewery are delighted: The amber-colored Ayinger Urweisse has triumphed at the European Beer Star beer competition, winning the gold medal. Around 2,200 beers competed in 74 different categories at the European Beer Star 2025. Traditional beer styles such as Helles, Pilsner, and wheat beer were tasted alongside less familiar styles, including Italian Grape Ale, Belgian-Style Strong Ale, and Herb and Spice Beer.
The beers were tasted and evaluated by a 150-member international jury of experts, including master brewers, trade journalists, beer sommeliers, and other beer experts. During the two-day blind tasting in Nuremberg at the beginning of August, the European Beer Star judges assessed the submitted beers purely based on sensory criteria. The focus was on appearance, aroma, and taste, as well as the typical varietal characteristics of the beers. Ultimately, only the top three beers in each category received the coveted medal.
The Ayinger Urweisse prevailed against tough competition. "Our beer competition enjoys an outstanding reputation worldwide and is highly regarded in the brewing industry. The European Beer Star is considered the toughest beer competition in the world among participating breweries. Year after year, our tasters confirm the high standard of the submitted beers. Often, only subtleties determine who takes home a medal," explains Kilian Kittl, Managing Director of the event organizer, Private Brauereien Bayern.
At the official European Beer Star 2025 awards ceremony, which took place on September 17th as part of the drinktec trade fair in Munich, the team led by master brewer Bernhard Neunhoeffer received the coveted trophy. "We are extremely proud that our Urweisse impressed the European Beer Star expert jury and was awarded the gold medal. This success demonstrates that we are among the world's top players in beer quality," said a visibly proud brewer, Franz Inselkammer.
